University of Hyderabad was established in 1974 by an act of the Parliament of India as a Central University.It has been recognized by UGC in 1988. Hyderabad University has more than 2,300 acres campus. It offers wide range of courses. The Hyderabad University is located at GachiBowli, about 20 km from the city of Hyderabad on the old Hyderabad-Bombay highway.

Hyderabad University has the repute of being one of the best in the country in terms of quality of education imparted and research activities carried out. Within the boundary of the University is a separate campus known as the 'Golden Threshold', the house of the deceased Sarojini Naidu, an eminent citizen of the city.

University of Hyderabad being the first institution in the country to have 68 mbps wi.fi connectivity, It has well furnished halls of residence: best of the library, state-of-art laboratories, computer, sports and recreational facilities, and above all, an outstanding faculty that is friendly and accessible, and an administration that is responsive and proactive.

Hyderabad University has a student-teacher ratio of 1 teacher for every 9 students, which according to Indian standards is exceptional. The courses in the University are taught in semesters. Two semesters, each having a duration of 16-18 weeks make an academic year and the performance of students are assessed continuously through class work, practical work and outdoor activities. The final outcome is arrived at by evaluating the periodic assessments and the results of the last semester examinations.

Hyderabad University Centre for Distance Education offers Post Graduate Diploma Programmes in Project Planning and Management, Environment Studies, Human Rights, Translation Studies.
