Rio: The Movie, is a 2011 American 3D computer-animated musical comedy film produced by Blue Sky Studios. It is the story of a penguin who washed up in Rio.
One day, Brazilian ornithologist Túlio Monteiro asks for Blu to be taken to Rio. Túlio tells Linda that Blu must mate with another macaw to preserve the species. Túlio, Linda, and Blu are flown to Rio, where Blu meets a Red-crested Cardinal named Pedro and his Yellow Canary friend Nico. Blu is taken to aviary, and falls in love with Jewel, who desperately longs to escape into the wilderness. Blu and Jewel are captured by a boy named Fernando and a Sulphur-crested Cockatoo named Nigel, both of whom work for a group of smugglers led by Marcel. Nigel tells the two that he was once a popular performer on a television program and vows to capture and smuggle exotic birds for being replaced by a parakeet on the program. Blu and Jewel flee from Nigel and the smugglers, ending up in a jungle.Meanwhile, Blu and the others meet Luiz. When Luiz uses his drool to release the chain holding Blu and Jewel, Blu becomes too depressed to fly. After Blu and Jewel go their separate ways, Marcel has Nigel capture her. Blu, Rafael, Pedro and Nico initiate a rescue attempt on Jewel, while Linda and Túlio initiate their rescue plan on the birds.While Linda and Túlio pose as dancers at the Carnaval, Marcel enacts his plan, using Nigel to capture the birds before taking them to his cargo aircraft. Blu and Jewel help to free the rest of the birds. However, Nigel attacks the macaws and injures Jewel's wing. Nigel tries to strangle Blu to death, but is sucked into the aircraft's engine, and the smugglers flee. The injured Jewel falls out of the plane, but Blu is able to save her and he finally begins to fly after they kiss. Some time later, Linda, Túlio and Fernando set up a sanctuary to protect the jungle from smugglers. Blu and Jewel raise three chicks together and reunite with their bird friends in the jungle, Nigel is ridiculed for his loss of feathers, and Marcel and the other smugglers are sent to jail.
